This new feature is significant if it rolls out to other categories. It has the potential to control the clutter of the platform’s millions of brands and products to choose from. From a consumer point of view, it may be a lifesaver in a sea of brands both familiar and foreign. Eliminating time-consuming vetting by visiting websites to ensure the legitimacy of a brand before purchasing is a key convenience factor. What’s more, many private label products use review and keyword manipulation to establish legitimacy, equating to nugatory products purchased based on the trust of fake reviews that end up in the trash. The only lingering question in our minds is: On what basis is a brand considered for the Top Brand Badge? Needless to say, this is a very welcome addition to the site which should improve customer confidence in their purchases if rolled out efficiently.
